This two-day adventure is the perfect escape from the city into another world… a setting worthy of One Thousand and One Nights. Imagine endless fine sand dunes, a camel or quad ride into the Sahara, a night under the stars where the Milky Way feels within reach, and a true Berber evening around the fire. Spending a night in the Tunisian desert is more than a trip—it’s a dream come true.

PROGRAM :

 

Day 1

  • Morning departure from your accommodation via the Roman Causeway, heading towards Tataouine.
  • Photo stop at the famous salt lake of Chahbania and introduction to your program.
  • Continue to Tataouine, free time at the colorful market.
  • Head to the mountain village of Chenini.
  • Stop at Ksar Ouled Soltan (or similar), one of the best-preserved collective granaries.
  • Visit the horizontal cave dwellings carved into the mountain slopes of Chenini, a Berber village dating back to the 11th century.
  • Lunch in a local restaurant.
  • Afternoon departure by 4x4 across sandy tracks (reg) towards the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, known for its campgrounds and natural hot spring.
  • Optional activities: camel ride or quad adventure (payable on site) to reach the ancient Roman fort of Tisavar.
  • Visit the hot spring, with the possibility of swimming (don’t forget your swimsuit and towel).
  • Continue by 4x4 to a desert camp (Zmela Camp or similar), accessible only by off-road vehicles, located at the foot of the dunes.
  • Witness the Sahara sunset, installation under tents, dinner and traditional evening around the fire.

Day 2

  • Gentle wake-up and breakfast at camp.

  • Departure towards the mountain Berber village of Tamezret for a photo stop.

  • Continue to Matmata, famous for its underground troglodyte houses and lunar landscapes used as Star Wars filming sets.

  • Visit a local family in a troglodyte home, with lunch served underground (homemade bread, olive oil, local specialties).

  • In the afternoon, return via the Berber village of Toujane, enjoying panoramic views.

  • Drive back to Djerba and arrival at your hotel.

ABOUT KSAR GHILANE: is one of the southernmost oases of Tunisia, located on the edge of the Grand Erg Oriental. Known as one of the gateways to the Sahara, the oasis is famous for its thermal hot spring, often suitable for bathing.

 

Historically, due to its frontier position, Ksar Ghilane remained difficult to access but has always been linked to Tunisia’s coastal provinces. Today, it is connected by asphalt road to Douz (80 km north) and Matmata, and is accessible by 4x4 or private vehicles.
