STAR WARS CIRCUIT – FILMING LOCATIONS IN TUNISIA
4 Days / 3 Nights
The diversity of landscapes, rich history and culture, and the warm hospitality of its people have made Tunisia a destination of choice for major filmmakers. Among them, the legendary George Lucas, who filmed the very first Star Wars scenes in Tunisia in 1976. After the phenomenal success of the movie, Lucas and his crew returned several times to southern Tunisia to shoot other episodes of the saga.
PROGRAM :
Day 1:
After breakfast, departure to Ajim and its surroundings on the island of Djerba, where the very first Star Wars scenes were filmed in 1976. Some streets were transformed by Lucasfilm decorators into Mos Eisley, where scenes with Ben Kenobi, Luke, the droids, and stormtroopers were shot.
Continue to Médenine (via the ferry) and visit its fortified granary (ksar), used in 1997 as the set for the Skywalker Alley.
Drive to Tataouine, the town that inspired the name of the planet Tatooine, and lunch.
Visit Chenini, the Berber mountain village known for its troglodyte homes.
End the day at Ksar Ouled Soltane, used as the set for the slave quarters in 1997.
Dinner and overnight in a troglodyte guesthouse (half-board).
Day 2 :
Breakfast and departure to Ksar Hadada, used as a filming location for Mos Espa on the galactic planet Tatooine.
Continue towards Tozeur via Douz, with lunch en route.
Cross the Chott El Jerid, the largest salt lake in North Africa.
Visit Sidi Bouhlel Canyon (Star Wars Canyon), natural backdrop of the Jundland Wastes and the podracing sequences.
Hotel check-in at Tozeur. Option to visit the old town.
Dinner and overnight at Hotel Ksar Rouge 4* (or equivalent).
Day 3 :
Breakfast and departure to visit the mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and Midès.
Lunch in a local restaurant.
Continue by track to Ong Jemel on the Chott El Gharsa and stop at numerous filming sites: Mos Espa set, Yardang Field, and others.
Visit Nefta, where you will see the Lars Homestead igloo (entrance to Luke Skywalker’s farm), and stop at the great dune representing the Dune Sea of Tatooine.
Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4:
Breakfast and departure to Matmata, known for its lunar landscape. Visit a troglodyte house.
Discover the famous Hotel Sidi Driss, filming location of the interior of the Lars Homestead.
Lunch included.
Visit the perched Berber village of Toujane.
Return to Djerba via the Roman Causeway.
