TREK FROM DJERBA TO CHENINI & NIGHT IN THE TUNISIAN DESERT

Set off on an unforgettable adventure from Djerba and Zarzis to discover the Berber villages perched on the slopes of the Dahar mountain range and the vastness of the Sahara Desert, as boundless as your wildest dreams. Transition from sedentary life into the infinite space once crossed by nomads. Experience breathtaking landscapes: salt deserts with mirages, 4x4 raids across rocky tracks (reg), and fine golden dunes in the Grand Erg Oriental.

The highlight of the journey: spending a magical night under the stars in the desert—an experience everyone should live at least once in their lifetime.

PROGRAM :

 

Day 1

 

  • Departure from your accommodation via the Roman Causeway towards Tataouine.

  • Arrival in Tataouine and visit of the city.

  • Continue to Ksar Ouled Soltane, a collective granary used as the filming location of the Star Wars slave quarters in 1997.

  • Drive to Douiret, an abandoned Berber village, where you will meet your local guide and donkey for a 4-hour trek across the mountains leading to Chenini, a Berber village still inhabited today.

  • Arrival in Chenini, nestled into the mountainside.

  • Dinner and overnight in a troglodyte guesthouse.

 

 

Day 3

 

  • Breakfast, then departure by 4x4 to the exotic oasis of Ksar Ghilane, known for its desert campgrounds and natural hot spring.

    • Optional quad ride (extra, payable on site) across the dunes to the Roman fort of Tisavar.

    • Visit and possibility of swimming in the natural hot spring.

  • Lunch in a local restaurant.

  • Continue to Douz, the gateway to the desert.

  • In the afternoon, meet the camel drivers and begin a 2-hour camel trek into the Sahara.

  • On arrival at camp, gather firewood and help prepare dinner.

  • Learn the traditional way of baking “sand bread” under the embers.

  • Dinner and authentic Bedouin evening around the campfire, with songs of the camel drivers.

  • Overnight under the stars.

Jour 3

  • Breakfast at camp, then continue your camel trek to meet the 4x4 vehicles.

  • Picnic lunch en route.

  • Departure for Matmata, famous for its lunar landscape and troglodyte homes.

  • Visit a local house and the Hotel Sidi Driss, filming location for the interior of Luke Skywalker’s home in Star Wars.

  • Continue via the Berber village of Toujane for panoramic photos.

  • Return to Djerba in the evening.
