BIVOUAC IN THE TUNISIAN DESERT

2 Days / 1 Night in the Desert
A magical overnight experience in the Tunisian Sahara, designed for desert lovers, silence seekers, and stargazers who prefer to avoid tourist crowds and embrace the purity of nature. In just two days, you’ll explore Berber mountain villages, ksour, troglodyte homes, desert plateaus, and finally an oasis hidden among the dunes.
PROGRAM :
Day 1:
Pick-up from your accommodation in the morning and departure via the Roman Causeway.
Coffee break with your guide’s briefing.
Continue towards Matmata with a short photo stop.
Arrive in Douz, the “Gateway to the Desert”: free time to visit the colorful souk (don’t forget to buy a cheche, the traditional desert scarf).
Departure to the outskirts of Douz where you’ll meet the camel drivers.
Start your camel trek (approx. 2 hours) across the dunes to reach your bivouac camp in the middle of nowhere.
Set up the tents and watch your dinner being prepared over a campfire, including the traditional “sand bread” baked under the embers.
Dinner, evening around the fire, and overnight under the stars.
Day 2 :
Gentle wake-up and breakfast at camp.
Continue your camel trek.
Lunch in the desert.
Return by camel to Douz and transfer by vehicle.
Drive towards Matmata with a photo stop in the old Berber village of Tamazret.
Visit a traditional troglodyte house, explore the rooms and terraces, and enjoy rosemary tea with homemade bread, olive oil, and honey.
Stop at the Star Wars filming locations and take photos of the Berber village of Toujane.
Return to Djerba in the evening.
