4-DAY / 3-NIGHT TREK IN THE TUNISIAN DESERT

Days / 3 Nights

 A journey back in time to discover the spirit of the caravans and the essence of trekking. We provide you with experienced men, born with sand in their eyes, raised in the endless sea of the Sahara. Men who know and master the laws that govern the Tunisian desert and its fascinating sides. No experience compares to a camel caravan in the heart of the Sahara, moving to the steady rhythm of our loyal dromedaries. Each day will be marked by two unforgettable moments: sunrise and sunset—unique experiences to live fully in the desert.

PROGRAM:

 

 

Day 1: 

  • After breakfast, pick-up from your hotel by a comfortable vehicle and departure via the ferry towards Douz.

  • Continue to Matmata to visit a troglodyte home, where you will be welcomed with tea, olive oil, and homemade bread.

  • Departure to Douz, the “Gateway to the Desert”.

  • Arrival in Douz, meet the camel drivers, and have lunch.

  • Begin your trek: about 2 hours walking with the caravan of camels.

  • Upon arrival at the campsite, you will help gather firewood and light the campfire with the team.

  • Set up tents.

  • Dinner prepared over the fire, including traditional sand bread baked in the embers.

  • Evening around the campfire with Bedouin songs and stories.

  • Dinner and overnight under the stars.

Day 2 & Day 3

 

  • Two full days dedicated to discovering the Grand Erg Oriental.

  • This trek follows a loop itinerary through dunes, water points, and wells.

  • Bivouac sites are chosen for their beauty and peaceful surroundings.

  • Daily rhythm: 2–3 hours walking in the morning and 2–3 hours in the afternoon (adaptable to your pace).

Day 4: 

  • Gentle wake-up and breakfast.

  • Continue the trek for 2–3 hours before stopping for lunch.

  • Afternoon walk.

  • Pick-up by vehicle for the return to Douz, then transfer back to Djerba.

NOTE : Each day you will walk between 2 to 3 hours in the morning and 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon, depending on your pace.

*PLEASE NOTE* : This excursion is only available from September 15 to May 31 in order to avoid the extreme summer heat.

 

Possibility of spending one or more nights in a bivouac with direct pickup from Douz or Ksar Ghilane for a 4-hour round trip, including dinner, breakfast, and overnight stay in a tent.
